The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has announced that it will donate more funds to the cause of reducing the maternal death rate of Malawi.
Speaking to Reuters during a recent visit to the African nation, Melinda Gates stated that the work being conducted to combat the number of women who die during or soon after pregnancy in the country is encouraging.
She explained: "If you asked me if we plan any more investment in reducing maternal deaths in Malawi, I would say yes."
In particular, Ms Gates commended the awareness being raised about the importance of women attending clinics during their pregnancies, the news provider added.
However, she did not disclose a specific sum of money that may be allocated to the cause in the future.
In related news, US global AIDS coordinator ambassador Eric Goosby commended Malawi last month for progressing well in its efforts to raise awareness of the HIV virus, informed AllAfrica.com.
